Hi, I’m Claire, the driving force behind Hyfrydle, our Beaumaris Holiday Let. Back in 2018 I took the plunge to buy our little cottage on Rating Row, just up from Beaumaris Castle, and start our exciting journey in the travel sector.
I saw the house and simply fell in love, it was an ideal size for our family to enjoy, a stone’s throw from the beautiful Menai Strait and the surrounding stunning scenery of the Snowdonia Mountain range, plus a few steps from town. Oh, and it had an added bonus of a parking space – which for those of you that have visited Beaumaris will know is a little gem.
What I didn’t know was that the house needed some extensive structural work. So, with my purse strings held tight, I employed a building team and set to work. All walls were taken back to brick, the damp-proof course improved, re-plastered and the entire house redecorated along with a new floor. Not to mention the re-jig of the downstairs to incorporate a shower room and patio doors out onto the sun-trap of a garden, plus a new kitchen.
What I have failed to tell you is that I did all of this while standing at the helm of a busy family. My husband Andrew working in a new position and devoting long hours, alongside bringing up an excitable three-year-old Harry, while being heavily pregnant with baby number two.
Baby number two was born on 13th May 2019, a whopping 9lb 13oz, a beautiful baby boy. So, after a quick overnight stay in the hospital, our first guests arrived at the house a day later, and since that point, I haven’t looked back.
Sharing Hyfrydle with others brings me immense joy. It’s an ideal size for a family of six, which in our case is our gang and Nanna and Grandad. We even opted to be dog-friendly so our family pooch Poppy could come along. In my view, there is no better feeling than heading out on a brisk walk with the family and a furry friend along the Anglesey Coastal Path, trekking over in the Snowdonia National Park, or a meander in North Wales.
